A gift captures a specific funding source (donor contribution) to endowed gifts (EG) and spendable gifts (SG). Gifts are equivalent to ISU Endowment (as pooled gifts) and ISU Foundation Parallel Accounts (as spendable gifts). Gifts should be established at the level required for tracking spending against contributions. Gift is one of four driver worktags.
Gift
The ISU Foundation initiates the creation of spendable gifts by sending requests to the Controller’s Department.
Examples: EG3001364 FW Miller- ISU, SG2700310 Roy J. Carver Co-Laboratory Operating Fund
All driver worktags require the following default related worktags:
- Business Unit
- Cost Center
- ISU Resource Type
- Except for scholarship designated gifts, spendable gifts always use IRT1124 RFN-Restricted ISU Foundation as the default ISU Resource Type.
- Scholarship designated gifts use IRT1125 RFNS-Restricted ISU Foundation Scholarships as the default ISU Resource Type.
- Fund
- Function
Gifts follow these naming conventions:
- Bond Fund IDs begin with the prefix BF followed by seven numeric digits (BF1234567).
- Endowment Gift IDs with the prefix EG followed by seven numeric digits beginning with 3 (EG3456789).
- Operating Gift IDs begin with the prefix OG followed by seven numeric digits (OG5678901).

Gifts are assigned to one of the following top-level hierarchies.
Gift Hierarchy | Description | Hierarchy Business Owners |
---|---|---|
All Gifts | The All Gifts hierarchy includes bond gifts, foundation gifts, and ISU managed. | Tina Cowles, Associate Controller |
FAR Endowment Gifts | The FAR Endowment Gifts hierarchy includes all endowment gifts. This hierarchy includes an additional layer of detail for gifts broken down by fund. | Danielle Kuhl, Accounting Manager, Financial Accounting and Reporting |
Fringe Re-Direct Gifts | The Fringe Re-Direct Gifts hierarchy includes gifts where gifter stipulations restrict payment of fringe benefits. This hierarchy is used during the monthly fringe benefits re-direct allocation process. | Tina Cowles, Associate Controller |
The ISU Foundation typically initiates new gift requests. The Workday Finance Data Governance Operational Committee maintains sole review and approval authority over requests for gift creation and maintenance. If you would like to request a new gift or maintenance to an existing one, please contact the Operational Committee.
Occasionally a gift's cost Center must change, which requires the creation of a new gift and assignment of the new cost center and other default related worktags. The Operational Committee will only consider cost center change requests from the ISU Foundation.
Visit the Worktag Inactivation Procedures page for guidance on how to request worktag inactivation.
